OK. Here's what happened. I decided that I would make a user account on this computer. But it all went wrong. I figured that I didn't need to make a computer administrator account because I thought I could just not type in the new account name and it would do what it normally does. But it didn't. And I can't get past the new account to the old computer because I'm not an administrator. And I can't delete the new account because I'm not an administrator. And I can't do a system restore because I'm not and administrator. Can anyone help me??

Hi Katie,

Try booting into Safe Mode and using the built-in Administrator account to
do a System Restore or whatever action you'd prefer to use.

Patti,
I know I'm gonna sound extremely stupid for asking this next question. (I'm not a complete idiot, just not used to XP) How do you get into safe mode?

No, you don't sound stupid, as I had no idea of how to get into Safe Mode
when I first heard the term. When your computer is first
starting/restarting, keep tapping the F8 key until you get a menu called
something like "Windows XP Advanced Startup Options".......from there, key
in the number that refers to Safe Mode (I can't recall which number it is).

Thank you so much. You've really helped. I'm gonna try the safe mode thing. Hopefully it will work because if it doesn't I'll have to completely reboot XP won't I?

There may be other options to get back into the User account that you had
been previously using. Try the System Restore from Safe Mode Administrator
first and see if that solves the problem.

I tried the safe mode, but I didn't get it to work the first time. I think it'll take some practice and skilled maneuvering to work it right. That first time it did the same as when I tried in normal mode. It said I didn't have the privilages and needed to get an administrator. I'd keep working on it but I can hardly keep my eyes open any longer so I think I'm gonna go on to bed. If you have any other ideas, let me know. (you can email me at (e-mail address removed)) And once again, thanks so much for all your help.
