okie dokey...

I'm not sure what happened, but if there is anyone out there with a
solution, i'll forever be in your debt.

I'll explain...

I was playing a game and got called away to dinner. When I came back One
Care told me that it just downloaded a new update and needed to install it
and restart the computer. It said that this would happen in 5 1/2 hours or
now (if i clicked now, which I did.)
The computer restarted and instead of the desktop appearing with the sidebar
and icons, it went straight into windows explorer.
Thinking that this was a bit odd, I closed down explorer to find that my
entire screen was black.
I couldn't right click
I couldn't use the keyb win logo key
nothing

I restarted the computer again; and again it opened up into win explorer.

I located programfiles/internet explorer and navigated my way here to ask....

Does anyone know wtf is going on??? ;'(

(I have tried restarting it in safe mode. same black screen with the 'safe
mode' doodads in each corner...)

Try pressing ctrl alt delete
and get the task manager up
if you can hit file, and open or run, or what ever it is
type in
explorer.exe
hit enter, and it SHOULD load your desktop.... if not i dont know how i
would fix that.

Worth a try though

OH MY GOODNESS...!

Thankyou! Something so simple - but I never would have worked it out!

I officially owe you a slab! :)

Try using System Restore to restore your PC to a time before the error
started happening.

System Restore can be found at C:\Windows\System32\rstrui.exe

unless you restore your PC you will have to do that every time!

But thats your call, i would never use system restore, it pisses way to many
things of in the process.
There are soloutions, but i dont have the paitence to type up the way i
would do it, involving regedit and startup scripts
google it though should be 4 or 5pages of instructions

thanx, i'll give it a go :)
