I have an ADSL connection set up on three computers through a router, but on one of these computers, the connection isn't working properly. It shows in the corner of the start bar that the connection is active, but when I try to view webpages or connect to messengers, it doesn't work. There is nothing to indicate what the problem is. The hardware properties says there is not problem with the chip and the internet is working fine on the other two machines. What is the problem and is there any way to solve it? I also tried to delete the connection to start again, but there was no option to do so.

does that machine have a valid IP?
can you ping the gateway?
can you ping an outside IP?
Is IE set to work offline?

start, run, type cmd, enter
ping 192.168.1.1 - if that's the IP of your router.

The thing is that I've had this connection for a few days and it was
working fine up until now. I also have a normal dial-up connection which I
am using now as a temporary replacement.

device manager, uninstall that network card, reboot and let XP install the
card.....

if this machine is connected to a router, then you have at least one
network adapter(NIC) or network card.

no. no router. no network adapter. not even a modem. no wires besides what
goes into the 110v wall socket??????
