I have a Compac Persario laptop....it will boot to the Wn xp screen then a
blue screen will flash for about 1 sec then it does a hard boot, i cant read
the blue screen because it disappears so fast. Right before this began I
revcd an error mess that readkernel_data_inpage_error
there is vitally important data i nd to retrieve off the system and I simply
cannot lose. I also do not hv a floppy drive.

SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME...THANK YOU

Right in the baginning; it relates to a possible driver or hardware problem,
the way to go about this problem is to logon in safe mode (pressing F8 when
you turn the computer on, or reboot) and once in the desktop go to
Start\Programs\accessories\System Tools\and System Restore and once the
restore program opens click on Next > and select a date when you could logon
normally and follow the easy steps to restore your system back to a
functional date. Once the system is restored to normal, uninstall and
replace any device or driver which could be causing the problem.

Hope this helps

thank you so much for your help...it won't evedn boot in safe mode, the
Repair Console on the Win restore disc won't work either...I even tried to
re-install windows and the install prgrm stopped and reported anerror and
could nt continue.
any more suggestions? I welcome them all :-)

In that case all seem to point to a hardware problem:

How much RAM is installed?,
Have you made any changes in the hardware?
What condition is the laptop in?
To what point did you get in the re-installation? (how far along in the
precess or time)

--------------------------

The machine is barely a year old, it has 512 ram...I haven't added nay new
hardware or anything...when trying to re-install windows, it loaded all the
drivers then when i clicked on "install Windows" it stopped, was it because
Windows is already on there? I think it is a virus, do you knw of any
software I can download and boot from the CD drive to check the system?

It's not because you have Windows installed, you can re-install any time and
as many times as you need to. I don't think it's a virus, if it were it
would not prevent a re-installation and I still think it's a hardware
problem, a message in the Herdware group may help. As for a program to boot
a dead system, you may want to try with ERD Commander.

ERD Commander - Boots dead systems directly from CD

suggested and update you of my progress...again thanks
