I did the Repair Windows XP using the Windows XP cd and I used these steps
this website shows
http://www.digitalwebcast.com/2002/03_mar/tutorials/cw_boot_toot2.htm

I've done this before and it took the pc back to my old settings. Well, it
did not work this time. What can I do to make my pc go back to my old
settings, without having to do difficult, risky things that may cause it to
lose everything? Right now, the pc is where when u first install Windows XP
into ur pc - that's how it looks like. And even though all of my programs are
there, it says that there's a "problem with short cut" or "the parameter is
incorrect"

HELP ME!

If I do these steps from the link u gave me... is it for sure the pc will go
back to how it was, even though it is now how u would see Windows when u
first install Windows XP? Will it work anyway and go back to my old
settings?

Hi

A 'Repair' install will replace all the Windows files so that PC will be in
working order again - unless there is another underlying problem. The
computer will 'revert' to the version of XP that is on the installation CD
you use and you will have to re-download/re-install the Windows Updates.
