Hi all!

I need help. I need to install a software on my laptop. Unfortunately, the
system does not allow this because I was logon as a User with no permission
to install a software. The thing is the person who use to have this laptop is
no longer connected with the company.

I don't want to reinstall the system. How will I retrieve or disable the
admin password?

Thanks

If you don't know the admin password, you have no choice but to reinstall.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies. all of the above seem to be a good solution, however,

1. I don't have an installation disk to reinstall everything.
2. this laptop does not have a cd drive nor floppy drive

I am stock here with no resources but the net. is there any other option
where i can do manual retrieval or resetting of password? i tried checking
the location of the profiles however, the systemprofile directory seem to be
protected. i can't open the folder. any suggestions?

thanks.

if it is a company laptop, can't they afford a new one.

No floppy and no cdrom makes this computer pretty worthless.
can't install software without a cdrom.
so what's your point.

how are you going to install new software?
very interesting question?

Then you are really SOL. Buy an external floppy and/or cd-rom. Buy the
operating system you want to use and do a clean install.

Yeah i know... i think they use external drives to install software. they
just lend me this one. anyway, thanks for the help, i'll try to find a way to
install the software if not crack the pword.

I'd say this isn't your problem!!!

Let they Geeks at the company figure it out!!!
If they want to waste the manhours vs cost of repair to fix computer.

That's only a minor problem. Remove your laptop hard disk, then
connect it as a slave drive to a desktop PC by means of a $5.00
adapter. Now use the Nordahl boot disk on the desktop.

Be very careful with this adapter - if you connect it back to
front then you will fry your laptop disk.

I might add that a laptop without a floppy or CD drive is a
pretty useless thing.

I too prefer to use external USB cases. Unfortunately I do
not think that the Nordahl boot disk recognises such a disk.

I readily agree that laptops without CD or FD drives are
useful - provided that they are supported by technicians
who have access to appropriate tools. The OP's post
proves the point: He does not have such tools, hence he
is stuck. How would he fix a non-booting OS?

The adapter I'm talking about is a purely mechanical device.
One side accepts a 2.5" hard disk connector, the other
a standard 3.5" ribbon cable connector. There is an
additional cable hanging off it for the power supply.
If you cannot find one then I'll post a picture.

well, thank you all for your help. i guess i have to live with this laptop
for awhile, anyway they just lend it to me for the training. at least i've
learned something from all of you.

thanks!

btw. i'm a she :-)

Strange, I can't see my reply I made earlier today. Here it is again -
sorry if you see it twice.
