Hi, any help would be greatly appreciated, my new (full) 200GB hard drive
doesnt work after i restarted my pc. it was working fine before! we had a big
storm coming so i turned it off and unplugged it, storm passed, i turn it
back on again and it says it isnt formatted and now i have to format! :( i
dont want to waste 160 odd GB...

Can anyone help? its a seagate i think. as i said, it was working fine and
then i shutdown, after restart it wants to format!

thanks in advance

Hi,

Is it an external Hdd?
If yes, have you tried to attach it to another PC?
What is the file format, FAT32 or NTFS?

These signs indicate that the harddisk controller [the logics that form part
of the drive] have been damaged.

You can try attaching this to another PC and tansfer dsata if it is
accessible [I doubt it very much], and if it doens't work you can attempt to
format it.

I would also suggest that any attempt to format the drive will not proceed
successfully and that the drive will be rendered useless.

So if the data is valuable, just try the disk in another PC. If that other
PC can't access the drive, then do a searchj for hard disk recovery services
and find one near you. They will charge around US$ 300 to recover any or all
data from the drive [whatever is possible]. This will be better than loosing
valuable information.

Do not format the drive if you want the maximum recovery of data.
