I have XP home.
I wish to move my OS to a new hard drive (running out of
space on my current partition), i understand that xp has
a mirroring tool to do this, is it on home edition (if
not can i download it for XP Home)??
I know that Nortan Ghost is available for this but as it
will be a one off i do not really want to spend a lot of
money to do so.

Windows XP does not have a "mirroring tool". You'll need
a third-party program, such as Norton's Ghost, to make an
image of your drive. Visit the following website and take a
look at an alternative imaging program:

Software fault-tolerant disk configurations are
a feature only of server versions of Windows.
You can always try making a full backup including
system state with NTbackup. Then on the new disk
do a quick fresh install, followed by a restore of the
backup. Make sure that the new disk, when you
install it, and during/after, has the same drive letter
as the system you will restore onto it.
