Seems to me that three bars is the default display until the utility finishes
"checking the system," or whatever. If you just leave the thing running (and
go get a sandwich or whatever) will it ever pop-up the statistics? Sometimes
my system will stick with the ubiquitous three bars for two or three minutes.
If it's taking much longer than this, then I'm stumped.

Thats a fairly old problem in xp,& more than likely the fix was/is included
in
SP1 or SP2,but the fix is kb812248 Other than that,go to run, type:cmd In
cmd
type:CLEANMGR Select C: Let it run..

I know this has been discussed here in the past, and I did not bookmark the
procedure for correcting the problem when I found the solution given in a
post in this Newsgroup.
The problem is:
after launching Disk Cleanup, it progresses to 3 green bars and stops.

There is a method for freeing Disk Cleanup to run in its entirety without
getting stopped.
Please, what is it?

If it's getting stuck at compressing old folders, here are a
couple of sites that might help solve the problem.

Courtesy of Kelly Theriot, MS-MVP
Download and run the registry fix on line 48, right hand
column, Disk Cleanup - Compress Old Files Freezes.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

The registry file from Kelly's web site automatically does what
Microsoft recommends to correct this problem.

Good luck
