My XP system keeps shutting the whole system down on me.
Nothing has changed that I can think of. I am pretty
knowledgeable with computers and am a programmer, but I
can't find any virus or anything on the system that is
causing it to shut down. This has been doing it for
about 2 days. When the system goes into pause mode it
shuts down. I have to restart every time. And sometimes
when I'm just working the whole thing shuts down. It's
like it loses all power with no battery or something.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Becky

Hi Becky, I was experiencing the same problem with my XP system just a few days ago, I ran a McAfee scan, and it showed that I had no viruses, I called my internet provider and was told that I should try to download Adware, which is free on your computer, I did so, it worked like a charm, occasionally I still get a screen pop-up that says internet explorer has to close and it will shut down, but this happens rarely, I also used the defragmenter option on my computer and compressed all my files and now my computer is very, very fast, I am happy with the results. Try it, hopefully it will end your problem at least for the most part. Good Luck!

Chris, did your system just shut off?
I get no warning saying it's shutting down..it's just
POWER OFF.
I am removing all software I don't need/use and was going
to defrag after.
It hasn't crashed so far since my post, but if I leave
and do something else...and the screen saver starts to
come up, it's gone.

.My computer has just started doing the same thing a few
days ago. I already have adware and that isn't helping.
I defragged and ran norton virus scan and as soon as I
rebooted it just shut off again without warning. If you
find a solution to this let me know and I will keep
looking also!!

Becky, no my system didn't just crash with no warning, I was always told it was going to close, I too got rid of everything that I wasn't using, it seemed to help also. Sorry that I couldn't be of more help. Chris

Did anyone come up with a fix for this. I've got the same thing happening. System seems to randomly just shut down. I've just checked my system for viruses and turned on the firewall several days ago. Tonight (2/24) I ran Ad-Ware and found a whole bunch of *dookie* on my system. Cleaned that up. Been running for an hour or so since then with no shut-downs. Does seem to occur more often when I'm online. System actually makes a 'spool-up' noise before it shuts down as described in another post.

Any ideas yet?

Thanks
Ashley

Hey everyone,

If your computer shuts down without warning, it could be an overheating issue or a power supply issue.
