Hello

When I surfed to some sites eg the Time magazine site, the images are not
displayed, but only placeholders for these images.
I have checked that my IE v6 option is set to Display Pictures.

I discovered, by right clicking on the image, then Properties, that these
images are gif files.

The odd thing is that on other sites with JPG images, IE displayed those
pictures with no problem.

I thought it was my Antivirus/Anti SPAM, Spyware software (PC Pen Cillin 05,
AVG, Adware SE Pro, SpyBot 1.3, Super Popup Blocker) that messed things up,
but disabling all the AV programs and rebooting did not help.

I reinstalled the Win Script 5.6 from the MS site, following a friend's
suggestion. But that was no good too.

I am using IE 6.0 SP 2 with Win XP on a DELL 2.2Ghz, 512 Mb RAM, 40Gb HD

Grateful for your help. Thank you.

Have you checked your HOSTS file (no extension).

Mine is at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC

Try:
(1) Close all instances of IE
(2) Rename HOST (e.g. HOST.SAV)
(3) Launch IE and see if the images appear

FYI, you can download a HOSTS File Manager at

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.

Hope this helps :-)

You're right. It worked!! I edited the HOSTS file by deleting an entry
that points the Time Magazine site's name back to 127.00.00.1. Cool! Thks
a million. By the way, are you the same Mike Meyer who maintains the Host
files.

Best regards and have a nice weekend
