Just today, after being away from my computer for 30 minutes, I came back to a:

"updating your computer is almost complete ... windows will restart your computer automatically in 4.03 seconds"

Choices are restart now or later, in which case the message comes back in about 5 minutes!

I thought that windows did this kind of thing only when you are signing off? Could this be a virus/spam?

If you have automatic updates set to download and install updates it will
prompt you when a restart is needed. It will also annoy you until you do
allow it to restart to complete the install.

Is there in this situation some kind of proccess in Task Manager I can
kill, so I can continue to work peacefully and not be annoyed every
5or15(?whatever but too short to be extremely annoying =D) minutes by this
restart-countdown dialog window?
I want to disrupt the reminder thread and restart when I self want it.
Howto?

TIA.

I agree. Auto-restart really sucks! It has lost a lot of my work! I hate
it! If you know how to disable it, please let me know!

Whoever came up with that nasty bit of code should be FIRED! No computer
should decide when it is going to restart! I will tell MY computer when it
is ok for it to restart! I don't need some jerk at Microsoft to take that
decision out of my hands and restart it anyways!

Maybe a class action suit for all the lost work caused by this auto-restart
"feature" would make them think about what kind of crap they are putting some
of their customers through. Yeah, I know I could restart, if this was a
normal situation, I would, but I am running long tests and they would be
invalid if I had to stop them to restart. I know I can also disable updates,
but I want the updates and I don't think Microsoft should harass it users
until they reboot or completely take away the choice and restart itself
anyways, even though I have told it restart later every 10 minutes for the
last day or so. STOP HARRASSING ME MICROSOFT!

wuauclt.exe is one of the files that causes the restart. I have ended the
process, but it automatically comes back. It doesn't matter how many times
you end it, it just comes back. There is no way to kill it forever. Another
Mircrosoft screw up.

That's right, moron. Then you could manually visit the Windows update
site periodically and update your computer when your "long tests" are
finished.

Good God man! You know what to do. Disable Automatic Updates and update
manually. It's not freaking rocket science. You want control? You
already have it. Now quit bitching about it and do it.
