Help Anyone?

I have a problem and I'm not real smart where computer's are concerned! There is an hourglass that comes and goes on my pointer all the time. It's like something is trying to download but I don't have a clue as to what. Even when I'm offline it does it. I don't know where to look to see what it could be. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
