I have Windows XP Pro Version 2002 Service Pack 1 installed and when I hit Start -> Help and Support, the hard disk light shines - then nothing. How do I trouble shoot this or what is next step in restoring system? Anyone

I have no idea what has occured to break the system. I have scanned for virus etc

Knowledge base is not too much help

Thanks in advance.

I tried the script, but it did not improve the situation. I do have the HelpCtr, HelpHost and HelpSvc exe in the windows\pchealth\binarys dir. Any ideas on what else I should try to look for

Thank you so much for helping

Alan,

To totally reinstall help
and support, copy and paste the following line in a Start > Run
prompt:
rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%systemroot%\inf\pchealth.inf
The routine will ask for the Windows XP CD, alternatively, try to
point it to the System32\dllcache folder and the
ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.

Good luck

Had the same problem. None of the standard fixes worked (reinstalling help,
reinstalling VBS and JS,sfc /scannow etc).

Take a look and see if you have a file called DP.DLL in your windows
directory. If so:
1. Close all instances of IE
2. Delete DP.DLL
3. Then Check Help and Support

This is some sort of redirector that adds stuff to all htm files.

Note: Adaware & Spyware did not catch this.

Good Luck,
Robert

I ran the scrip reloaded help from the CD and searched for, but did not find a dp.dll. Still the same problem. Click help from start, get an hour glass for a second, then nothing. I checked the registry values and they are set per the script and as the file system.

I appreciate every one's help.

Any more suggestions?

This is the link for the actual Help Homepage:
hcp://services/centers/homepage
Just create a shortcut on the Desktop and paste this link into the location
box. It will act just like the original link, I have to find the registry
key to put this link in and it
will work on the Start Menu also.
