Help and support center not functioning

I have done a clean install of XP home on a Gateway system w/256MB RAM and a
P3 processor. Upon completion the welchia worm was present and took care of
that. The final problem that I have is that the Help and Support Center is
not working. When the icon is clicked on in the start menu, the hour glass
presents itsself for about two seconds and goes away with no further action.
If I go into individual applications and click on help I get what is
requested. I have tried reinstalling help and reregistering the help
components but to no avail. Does anyone know what I can do to get this
back?
TIA
JLC

If you've run Toni Arts Easy Cleaner on your XP installation, and allowed it
to delete what it found in the registry, then your Help and Support will not
run. Easy Cleaner deletes the values of 2 necessary Registry keys. See my
web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP section. Follow the
appropriate link for Fix Window XP Help. This small VB Script will repair
the damage done by Easy Cleaner. Note: other Registry cleaning programs
cause the same problem.

Where did the worm come from if you'd done a clean install?

I have no idea where the worm came from but I have come across other users
who have experienced the same instant infection while doing the same
process. ref: alt.os.windows.xp

Doug, I have not run this utility from Toni Arts but was referred to this
fix in another NG and had no luck with it. Thank you for the suggestion, do
you have any more?
TIA JLC

OK, I have tried everything listed in the links given with no results. I am
at wits end and don't know what to do. I am about ready to invest several
MORE hours to do another clean install but am afraid that the install disk
might be bad. Is this probable? Does anyone have any more ideas?

Hi,

Suggestion: Something Doug and I ran across this past week.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{2559a1f1-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}\Instance\Init
PropertyBag

Insure that method in the right pane reads: Help. If not double method and
type in Help.

If there is a Param1 listed beneath it, delete it.

Or run the undo (ignore the name) on line 152 - Right hand side

Dang, forgot about that :-(

Was just a mention, not sure if it is the real fix for him, though. <w>
