Help All my Files have disappeared

I turned my laptop on yesterday to find that 95% of my
files had disappeared. A couple of Word docs that
were "loose" on my desktop are still there but all Word,
Excel, Publisher & Powerpoint Docs that were in folders
have gone. That's quite a lot of unbacked up (stupid me)
work I can tell you. The only files that have not
vaporised seem to be picture jpegs.A Norton scan hasn't
detected any virus and otherwise the computer seems to be
working fine. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
 
Were all these files in one particular folder or were they spread all over
your disk?

Try doing a search from the root directory of your hard disk to see if you
didn't drag and drop a folder somewhere by mistake.

Unlikely for this to occur on it's own. That's not how computers work.
Something or someone did something. Are you sure about the ID that you
logged in as? Sure you aren't using another ID? Have you "searched"
the disk to see if they not in locations other than you initially remember?
