Hello, again,
Whoever mentioned that exporting an address book from one 2000 box to
another is a simple matter of copying a .wab file has not shared my
experience.
Both boxes in question run Windows XP Home, and Microsoft XP Office
Professional.
The .wab file was the first thing that I went to look for. No such entity
exists.
Then, I went to File/Export. I was allowed to export the data into a
Windows .csv file. So far, so good. I copied that file onto a CD. When I
attempted to import the file into the target box, it mentioned that it
needed a utility that did not exist on the HD, some .msi file and prompted
me to insert the installation CD. I did, and it didn't find it. The file
that it was looking for here was PRO.MSI. I searched the disk, and didn't
find it. Hmm.
Next, I copied a file of Outlook.pst from the first box to the disk. When I
went to copy to the target, I got the old 'overwrite?' box, and I said yes.
The copy started running, and about a minute it in, it stopped, saying
something like "Invalid DOS Operation", or something like that.
So, I went to look for the original Outlook.pst file that was on the target
box, and it was GONE, not in the recycle bin, nowhere to be found.
So now, I can't even open up Outlook, since it actually NEEDS a valid.pst
file in \Docs and Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
before the application can even open. Whoah shit. Actually, it does open,
but the only folders that it can see are My Computer, My Documents, and
stuff like that.
So, then I tried to open the .pst file that is stored on the CD, and I get a
message, saying something to the effect of, "You do not have permission to
open this file". This, in spite of the fact that I'm logged in as Admin.
So then, I reinstalled the MS XP Office Pro suite. I go to look in Docs and
Settings\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook , and it's STILL
NOT THERE.
Then, I tried System Restore, and set it back to Tuesday. Still, no .pst
file.
HELP! Can anyone give me advice? Do I have to reinstall the OPERATING
SYSTEM just to get the stupid .pst file? I searched the XP Windows disk,
and cannot find that file on it.
Someone please help.
Thanks, again.
