help a damsel please

I am using windows xp operating system oceanfree for the internet and norton anti virus for the prevention of viruses but now, more frequently each day, watever program I am working on, wether it b nero, windows movie maker or such, they just shutdown or disappear so I have to restart the program frequently. Is there a reason for this?? What can I do? Any help is appreciated.
 
Hi damsel. Are you virus definitions up to date if not update them. Then
close all your programs and run a virus scan.
