I've just heard this...

Windows XP Pro and Windows 200 Pro will not support any more than 10 clients
in a peer-peer network envirment.

Can any one confirm this, if so do you have a link to ms web site......

Thanks

Wayne

You can have as many computers as you want in the network. Only 10 of them
can connect to an XP Pro computer/share at one time. XP Home = 5 connections
at one time.
If you need more than 10 connections to a machine/share then you need to
upgrade to a windows server version.

OK.

Do you know of MS documentation this? (links). I know it's a pain but I have
to show it from the horses mouth as it were to the powers that be.

Thanks, Wayne

just type start, run, winver, click on the 'end user license agreement'
and =read= the damn thing .. you'll find 'connection maximum' mercifully
near the top. And yes, they have implemented this restriction in the
software, as well as just making you promise to abide by it.

(or c:/windows/system32/eula.txt)

Like GSV said: it's in the eula, here is the section:

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Manufacturer grants you the following
rights, provided you comply with all of the terms and
conditions of this EULA:

* Installation and Use. Except as otherwise expressly
provided in this EULA, you may install, use, access,
display and run only one (1) copy of the SOFTWARE on
the COMPUTER. The SOFTWARE may not
be used by more than two (2) processors at any one time
on the COMPUTER, unless a higher number is indicated
on the Certificate of Authenticity. You may permit a
maximum of ten (10) ("Connection Maximum") computers
or other electronic devices (each a "Device") to connect
to the COMPUTER to utilize the services of the SOFTWARE
solely for File and Print services, Internet Information
services, and remote access (including connection sharing
and telephony services). The ten (10) Connection Maximum
includes any indirect connections made through
"multiplexing" or other software or hardware which pools
or aggregates connections. Except as otherwise permitted
below, you may not use the Device to use, access, display
or run the SOFTWARE, the SOFTWARE's
User Interface or other executable software residing
on the COMPUTER.
