Helllp! . . .Hard Disc Problem

Hi

I intially develooped a fault where the computer would
flash up an error message on start up about the computer
not being shut down properly. Then the laptop would cut
out before Win XP loaded and continuously reboot itself
no matter what method of restarting I chose.

The problem has now progressed to the point where the
Hard Drive is not detected at start up. I have checked
the coneections and cannot see anything obvious.

Is this a -
Virus?
Hard disk failure?


Is there a way of getting teh information out -
preferably other than resroting to the expensive data
recovery companies [I have been quoted £300 = $500 for my
20GB HD].


Please Help!
 
Sounds like the hard drive is . . . dead.

$500 isn't cheap but . . . what's the data worth ?
