Headers and Footers

Sometimes when I choose view headers and footers, I don't get the typical header and footer boxes. I get nothing and then I can't add a header to my document. Any suggestions? Has anyone seen this before?
 
Hi Halliday

I can't think of a particular problem that would cause this difficulty. But
headers and footers are said to show early signs of corruption in the
document. Try copying out the contents of each section (omitting the section
break) into a new document. You'll have to re-create the headers and
footers. If that solves the problem, then the document may have had
corruption.
