Word 2002 - 200 page document with multiple sections that is shared with users of Word 97 and 2000 as well. document used to have headers and footers on all pages, all sections. Headers and Footers no longer appear for the first 15-20 pages of the document. Tried to "View Headers and Footers" to add them back in - Word appears to let me view the header and footer area, but the frame is no longer there and I can't edit the header/footer area. Tried the help text to troubleshoot, but none of that info was helpful. Can't figure out how to re-add the headers and footers where they are gone. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Keri

I would suspect document corruption, which often manifests itself first
in headers and footers.

For more information, including action to take, see
How can I recover a corrupt document or template - and why did it become
corrupt?

Hope this helps.

Some additional information that I just learned. When this document is viewed in Word 2000, the headers and footers are visible and i have no problems with it. So, I am not certain if the document is corrupt, or if this is a backwards compatibility issue with different versions of Word. Any other tips on how to manage this problem with Word 2002?

Hi Keri

I've had documents go back and forth between Word 2000, 2002 and 2003
with no problems of the kind you describe. I think that your problem is
unlikely to be a compatibility issue.

Hope this helps.
