built a new machine asus k8n-e deluxe motherboard ,etc.... my problem, tried
to use 40gb maxtor hdd from my other machine which i flushed and formated.
the bio's see it,disk manager see's it but my computor does not. what to
do??????
any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks for the reply, my error devise manager see's the drive but disk
manager does not. if i put this drive back in my other machine it reconizes
it?

This drive will be not be the C: driver?? If yes, then did you install the
correct IDE drivers, usually part of the chipset drivers?

Also, did is configure the BIOS to see the drive? I've seen where the XP
sees a hard drive that is not BIOS configured but will not allow you to use
it.

yves, thanks for your help. the drive is not c: i thought i installed all
the drivers . i'll check that out. in bios it does show the drive as a
primary slave , it does not show it in the boot device list. but if i put
this drive on my other machine the drive runs fine!@#!#$@@$

Run diskmgmt.msc, menu Action/Rescan disks.

tried rescan. does not see it. wierd . i reformed this drive on my other machine don't understand what is up!!

It's Maxtor.
Sounds like MBR is wrong or inaccessible. Boot into Recovery Console, run
*map* and if you'll find the disk then run *fixmbr* on that disk. Disable in
the BIOS any Boot sector protection.

If it is a Western Digital - recheck the jumper settings.

HEY RONK, IT'S A MAXTOR DRIVE , I HAVE MAXBLAST 3 INSTALLED. NOT TO BE REPETITIVE, IT RUNS ON MY OTHER MACHINE,THAT'S WHAT IS SO WIERD.

Hi, Bob.

Have you checked the Help file in Disk Management? In some cases, we need
to Initialize a foreign HD. It hasn't happened to me, so I can't speak from
experience, but I see discussion of it in the Help file. In fact, there's a
LOT of good info in that Help file. ;<)

WHY are you using MaxBlast? All the tools you should need are in Disk
Management, including deleting and creating partitions and formatting them.

And you should not need to install any supplemental drivers for a vanilla
IDE HD. Everything you need for this should be on the WinXP CD-ROM and
should have been installed routinely by WinXP Setup.

You've mentioned "my other machine" several times, but you've never told us
anything about that one. Is it also running WinXP? What's different
between the two hardware configurations?

hi r.c.i'll check out help. the maxblast , i istalled it hoping it would
help. i'm aware xp comes with the drives . just getting a little frustrated!
my other machine has a gigabit ga-7vrxp mobo with 40 gb maxtor hdd (ata 133
), this drive was the slave and the one i'm having so much trouble with was
the master.it is running xp pro. i removed all the data i needed from it and
wiped it clean. i
when i start my new machine with drive as slave , dos screen with list of
drives and etc..... tells me that there is an error with primary slave pree
fi to resume.
