Can anyone assist?

Trying to swap HDD from old box to new box, back and
forth, work to home, WinXP keeps requesting me to
reregister. Have reregistered so many times, it won't
allow any more.

Question: How does this new box know this HDD came
from another computer?

Do I have to zap something, change or do something to
the new box, in order to use this HDD on my second
remote box? Packing around the HDD from home to work,
would be a lot easier than moving the whole box.

Any assistance or directions would be appreciated.
Thanks BGG

Hi,

Windows uses a checking algorithm to check that the
hardware hasnt been changed. so when u change the hard
disk it compares with the previous loading and then
identifies that it is not the same motherboard which
loaded last. This re-registration is known as activation
to prevent usage beyond the license limit.
Why would u want to swap the disk daily between home
work. Why not explore something like an external hard
disk.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.

A: Have already over spent on this idea of one HDD and
two computers.
A: Security. I don't feel comfortable leaving this HDD
and it's information at work.

Reregistering is fine, but only lasts 30 days, and so
far, I've reregistered so many times in order to use
my HDD that it says something
like , 'no more', or what ever the wording is.

Q: Is there anyway that I can tell my home computer to
allow this HDD to be used? These are my personal
computers, and I've already purchased WinXP, so why would
I have to purchase it again? Is that not within the
license agreement?

A hard drive is a hard drive, be it internal or
external. If the second computer will not allow WinXP
due to a different motherboard, it doesn't matter
if the HDD is internal or external.

Question: How to allow activation of WinXP on second HDD?
