hi,
I m facing a problem with winxp prof. I m using the SATA
Seagate drive which is 200GB capacity drive and also
detected through my motherboard exactly 200GB.But when I m
formatting/installing my drive through winxp it's showing
the total unpartitioned space 132 MB only.I m using NTFS
on same drive.Does XP support this much capacity drive or
not pls help me to resolve this problem I'll be very
thankful to u.

XP only can see as much of the HDD as BIOS recognises.

Check out the website for your MOBO supplier, or the HDD supplier [less
chance] to see if there is a BIOS update to enable larger capacity drives.

Failing that you're limited to 132Gb.

When updating BIOS ensure that you perform all steps 'to the letter'. A
failed attempt may render your MOBO / PC useless....totally and utterly brain
dead.

It is wise to backup prior to performing a BIOS update, that is unless you
are familiar with this process and have great confidence in your ability and
the MOBO manufacturer.

It sounds like you don't have a XP disk with SP1/SP1a ? If so, just make a
partition of about 130 GB (or the max the installer sees) and install. When
installed, update XP either from a CD or from WinUpdate with at least SP1
(SP2 now available).

Then you can, in disk management, make an additional partition (partition,
format and assign letter) using the rest of the disk, or go out and buy some
3rd party software like PartitionManager and adjust the size of the first
partition....
