HD problem

i bought a new quad 4 acer tower
tried to install xp and it didnt take
now it wont even read the HD
i have plugged the bad HD into another tower
says the HD is unallocated
i ran a partition program and got this:

error(the system cannot find the file specified)reading sector 0 on
Unallocated
error(the system cannot find the file specified)reading sector 0 on 81h
primary boot sector and its copy differ

is it possible to repair this and set it as the master on the new PC again?

Some computers have been sold with Vista pre-installed where there can
be practical difficulties if you try to install an earlier operating
system. You should contact your computer supplier for advice.
