HD is redg as 1 gig but its a 20 gig HD

ok i formated my hard drive and re installed XP home, now my hard drive C is only saying its like 1 gig, but its a 20 gig hd with a 40 gig backup , its in ntfs and not fat 32. what do i need to do to correct this.?.
 
Jeff I have the same problem with my Western Digidal Hard Drive if you find out how to fix it please letme know (e-mail address removed) Thank you
