I am having trouble with Hayes Accura v90 and v92 modems. I get about 1 good
connection in 8 tries. The problem shows up as unable to connect to the ISP
for a number of reasons, or the port is opened and the dialing dialogue is
displayed but the modem does not actually dial out. The modem drivers are
up to date. The only way I can improve things slightly is to stop the speed
down to v34, but even that is unreliable.

As these problems are on different machines running Win98se and WinXPpro, in
different areas, running different Accura modems, connecting to different
ISP's, I am beginning to suspect the Hayes drivers are not upto scratch.

Does anybody else have these problems? Is there a solution?

Hello Donald,

I spoke to Hayes tech sup yesterday and found that there are problems
running Hayes Accura v9x PCI modems on machines with Hyperthreading enabled.
The problem is due to the PCI drivers that Hayes use, they are apparently
working on it. My MOBO is a Chaintech 9CJS with a P4-3.06 installed,
Hyperthreading enabled.

I have found that stopping the connection speed down to v34 and opening the
dial-up connection from the Control Panel seems to work better than having
an application initiate the connection such as IE6 or Outlook.

Haven't found an answer yet to the similar problems on my other systems
which are not enabled for Hyperthreading.

Hayes are sending me some updated drivers to try which are not available
from their site, but are currently being tested by them.

I'll post back here with any updates regarding how and when these problems
are resolved.

Regards
