Having trouble with new network

I have two computers both running XP SP2 and Zone Alarm (free version)
behind a Linksys router BEFW11S4, one wired, one wireless. Both machines can
and still do access the internet just fine. I ran windows networking wizard.
I created a unique workgroup name as well as have unique names (under 12
char. with no spaces) for the computers.

As you can guess, the network is not working. When I go to My Network
Places I see nothing on either computer. When I click on one of the
workgroup computers it promted me for a password (???), regardless if I was
clicking on the other computer or the one I am on.

So I did a search to find a solution. I enabled TCP/IP on both machines.
And I also enabled the "Guest" as well as reset the password and downloaded
the FixNet.zip. This seemed to "solve" my password issue.

Now, my Network Places is still blank and when I click on a workgroup
computer, I get this message:

\\Desktop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access
permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type
at this
computer.

What am I doing wrong?

My friend, I am having the exact same problem! SUCKS! I would never have
imagined not being able to network wireless and wired
PC's both running XP. I've tried everything I can think of.
One strange twist is that I added a Win98 machine to the network (wired) and
I can see both ways.

Please use http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm to solve this
problem.

Sorry hans, this does not help - I tried this excellent resourse - but
there is something else involved that prevents me from networking my
two PCs. It very well may be individual setup. But all symptoms are
those that original poster is experiencing.

Oh, that's a very interesting case, as this problem is very
thoroughly analyzed and solved on that page. Please fill in the
form again, then copy the selections line from underneath the
form, just above the three buttons, and post it here.

Dmitri,

you still didn't fill in the form completely, but nonetheless
you got two hits with the highest relevance of 3 and several
others.

Solve these problems. Begin with the NetBIOS Node Type problem.

If you are not conscientious, you will never solve these
problems. Computers are kind of demanding in this respect. Just
skimming over the results will not solve this problem.

well, gee, thanks for the meaningful input.

NetBIOS node type is UNKNOWN - I am on home network with no server.

Dmitri,

in your message before the last you cited that you had checked
the checkbox, NetBIOS node type is Peer-to-Peer. You also
couldn't be bothered to fill in the entire form.

How can anybody give you meaningful help if you cannot give
precise information?

This is exactly what I mean. If you are not conscientious, you
will not be able to solve your problem, neither with the method
I proposed, nor with any other method. Computers are,
unfortunately, not very forgiving in this respect.

There is another aspect. You are trying to save a minute of your
own time by carelessly writing imprecise stuff here and
following advice only half-way, but you don't seem to have any
qualms demanding other peoples' time.

I'm only giving a well-meaning warning. I'm sure you can get
more and better help here when you come across as someone who is
taking advice serious and who is making an effort himself too.
