I purchased windows XP as an upgrade to windows ME. I have
had to reload S/W 4 times because of a hard disk crash.
Now my activation won't work. Same PC all the time...
haven't loaded onto anyother PC. Anyone know why this is
happening?

I had that problem when I first got Windows XP Pro. It
has to do with the Activation code that MS adopted. Once
you reach a certain amount of installs it will lock you
out. You'll have to call the phone number that you can
get from the activation screen. The call is relatively
painlee and quick. They usually don't give you any
hassles!
Good luck.

If you have a faulty hard disk, replace it first. Big and fast ones are
very inexpensive nowadays.
Rather than run the Upgrade, why not start fresh and do a clean install
of Windows XP? First run the Windows XP Compatibility Check to see if you
have a hardware issue. Then ensure that you have backed up all the files
you'll want to keep: e-mail archives, data files, address book(s), and
configuration files. Use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Office.
Make that backup to a removable CD, or to multiple CDs.
Then boot from the Windows XP CD, and run the Repair Console. Delete the
primary partition, and run Setup clean from the CD. You will be prompted to
swap in and out your old Win Me CD as proof of ownership of a qualifying
product, and after that, it is smooth sailing.
