Having problems burning powerpoint to a CD.

I've installed a new CD-RW drive on a Dell and have tried to copy PowerPoint
presentations to a CD-RW cd. I am able to drag and drop on a brand new CD
but I can't use the "Package for CD" option under the File menu on
Powerpoint. Also, after I erase a CD and try to drag and drop the same
presentation on it, I get an error that the CD is not writeable.

Are there any settings that need to be changed? What could I be doing wrong?

thanks!

It's not your settings, it's Windows. I never rely on the Windows CD writing
function and I always use my CD burning software. There are multiple reasons
for this, but I think that you'll find it to be a much more reliable and
flexible approach. In PowerPoint use the Package to Folder function and then
use your CD burning software to burn the contents of your folder to a CD.

Well, this CD burner came from dell as an upgrade. I installed it into this
user's machine. There was no extra software included with it and there was
none on the PC to begin with. Should there have been?

Burners nearly always come with at least a "light" version of Nero or Roxio
software, etc. If you don't have any, and need to pursue why Windows won't
write to your CD's, I would recommend that you post in the appropriate (possibly
Win Hardware) Windows newsgroup and get help there. But first, have you tried
the drag and drop method using a newly formatted CD, i.e. a CD-R out of the
package?

Yes, drag and drop works on a brand new CD-RW disk. However, if I "erase" a
disk to resuse it (acording to the menu on windows when that drive is
highlighted) and then try to drag and drop, I get an error that the disk is
not writeable.

The crazy thing is that the CD packager for Power Point works on my laptop
and I am running XP professional on it as well.

You'll need to check that out with Dell.

If they don't supply adequate software, you might want to look at Nero from Ahead
software. http://ww2.nero.com/us/index.html

I've gotten four or five other CD burning apps for free with various computers but
happily paid for Nero, which I swear by. The others move me to swearing too but
not in quite the same way. ;-)
