hey guys im having a problem with Explorer.exe eating up
my CPU the problem just started yesterday and now
Explorer.exe takes up 90-99% of CPU usage.i dont know
what caused this sudden problem but its killing my PC i
have constant freeze ups and cant access any of my
folders.im running XP pro service pack 1 and all the
latest windows updates,i already scanned for
virus's,spyware and adware all turned up negative.i would
usually format and reinstall but its time consuming and i
cant afford to lose all my work files on the PC if anyone

This has something to do with explorer trying to preview avi files. Try
going to the following registry key, and after backing it up of course,
delete the Default value.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

Don't be fooled by the list of system.xxx entries. You might think you
don't have the SystemFileAssociations key, but it comes way down after they
system.xxx entries. This should not have any deleterious effects at all.
