Having OL 2000 on same computer as OL 2003

I have upgraded to OL 2003. Recently I learned that there was a feature of
OL 2000 had (shared folders) that is not available in OL 2003. Can I safely
install OL 2000 on a computer that already has OL 2003, so that it uses
different directories? I only want to use OL 2000 to get access to some
shared folders that colleages have made available to me.
Thanks for the help.

Yeah, the "Shared Calendar" thing...

I'm running into that now.

I guess it's Microsoft's way to force you to buy Exchange Server.

You can't run two versions of Outlook on the same machine, except perhaps by
setting up Virtual Machine or Virtual PC and installing the other version
there.

Addendum to my last reply -- you could also set up a partition on your hard
drive and use dual boot to set up two operating systems -- then you could
use one version of Outlook on one side of the partition and another version
on the other side. But of course, you'd have to reboot each time you wanted
to switch.

Thanks Jacelyn. Those answers were quite clear. This is probably a much
simpler question. A simpler solution for me might be to load OL 2000 on a
very basic machine that I have on my home network and get the shared
calendar onto that computer. If I did that, what would be the simplest way
for me to get that shared calendar over to my main computer. Copying a file
across the network is a piece of cake.

My confusion stems from being completely new to shared calendars. So what I
am asking about is probably how to export the calendar from OL 2000 into a
format that I can copy across my network and then how to import it into OL
2003. Could you help me with that?

Thank you very much.

Your Calendar (as well as all other Outlook items, except for account
information) reside in a file whose type is ".pst". If you simply copy that
file to the other computer and open in it Outlook (no export/import needed),
you'll have the Calendar on the second machine as well. Another approach is
to place the PST file in a netwok share and simply open the shared file on
each computer (provided it's not simultaneously). Then you'll have exactly
the same data on both machines.

I don't speak for Smiths, and Smiths doesn't speak for me.

Thanks Brian. Either option is easier than the export/import approach.
Since I really do not need the Calendar on the older machine, I think I will
copy the outlook.pst file over the network to my main machine. However, the
other may prove helpful in the future. Your suggestions were quite helpful.
Thanks again.
