Every time I reset my computer I have to disable and enable the network card
to get the network to function. I have swapped out network cards and
reinstalled windows xp pro sp2. I have a Pentium 3 800 with 256 mb ram. I
am using the computer for a pvr so I want to be able to connect to it with a
vnc for admin. But the network must work for me to do that. Thanks in
advance.

AFAIK this can be caused by some 3rd party protocol or intermediate drivers.
Unfortunately they are not nesessarily visible in the connection properties,
and finding them can be difficult.
Usually you get them with freeware sniffers, various "internet accelerators" etc.

not sure but it sounds like an IP adress problem. are you using a router?
when you disable and reenable the network card your router may be refreshing
the IP adress to a current value
