Hi,

I have a problem to install a serial communication board to my XPE system.
This board is a PCI RS422 communication board. If install successfully, I
should extra COM port in my system. The error occurs during device
installation, and report "the required section not found in INF file". I
have installled on regular XP and 2000 Pro without any problem. I have
talked to the manufacturer about the problem. They think this is problem of
XPE image missing required components.

Does anybody know what kind of components are needed? Maybe none can anwser
this question. But What is a good way to track down the needed components?

Any input is appreciated. I just do not have any idea where to start.

Thanks.

Jhou,

Take a look at the \windows\SetupApi.log file to see waht could be missing from your image to get the hardware working.

Also, if you have Device Manager in the image use it to see the driver installation and working status.

Components you would need are (at least):
"Communications Port"
"Multiport Communications Port"
"Class Install Library - Msports"
"Class Installer - Ports (COM & LPT)"
"Device: MultiPortSerial"
"Device: Ports"

Hi KM,

Thank you very much for the valuable information. After added those
components, I can complete the installation procedure.

But during the installation , mf.sys file is required. I have to copy this
file from other system. How do I include mf.sys in my original built?

Thanks.

Jhou,

Please add "Device: Multifunction" component to your configuration.

You may want to learn how to use TD Filter feature. It will allow you to search for components by the files that contain.
