I have XP home and I have deleted an account with all files contained in
it. I want it back, I've tried system restore. It brings back the
account empty, can I get the files/pictures and music back?

Hi Dave,

Not sure exactly how you deleted the account. What you can try is to go the
following directory on your main drive.
c:\documents and settings. When a account is created this is where is
resides. you may be able to find something here. Also there are so neat data
recovery tools availble which you can search and find I am sure. Hope this
helps you out...One thing for sure, Don't give up!!!

You can't. System Restore has no effect on user created fiiles. By
continuing to use the system you have made any chance of recovery
impossible. You could pay a data recovery company £1000s to attempt to
recover the data, but the chances would be remote...

Hi Dave,

Do a search on Google looking for - undelete shareware download - and
you'll find dozens of free programs that'll undelete your files.

The sooner you do this the less likely it is that you've since
overwritten your original files with something you've done recently.

For the umpteenth time...System Restore does not back up and restore user
created files.

I will state that again incase you missed it...

System Restore does not back up user created files such as Music, Photos,
etc.

System restore will take a snapshot of system state files and a few select
folders and will return the system to that "state" when system restore is
invoked. System Restore is *NOT* a backup program. Never was, Never will
be.

You may be able to retrieve *SOME* of the files by using file recovery
software, but every time you use your computer, your chances of recovering
the files decreases.

You should have learned 3 things from this:

1. Don't delete accounts until you are sure they are empty.

2. You need to have a back up regimen in place (which you did not).

3. System Restore is *NOT* a backup utility.
