I have got my cd drives back, thanks Kaylene et al, now plug and play is not
picking up my printer, scanner, usb hub and graphics are quite shaky and
slow. I tried installing the latest Nvidia software but it isn't showing as
it normally does in desktop properties settings advanced, any ideas?

It appears that you need to install the main board drivers. Is the Device
Manager showing problem devices ? Jym

No Jym, no problems in device manager, my graphics are really shaky though,
when I try to move a window it is very slow and jerky

says that there is a problem with direct3d and that the system is using the
generic video driver and not the manufacturers version.

Download and install the latest display driver from the manufactures website
per their install instructions . Good luck . Jym

Sorted Jym, you were right, it was the main board drivers that were causing
the problem. I guess that I have been here all day trying to resolve/recover
my machine that I overlooked one of the most fundamental things. Anyway Jym
all credit to you. (you wouldn't happen to know which files I can safely
delete to recover some space. I have gone from 19gb to 15gb, I must have
laods of old files that I can get rid of.

Thanks again Jym

Your welcome . I personally copy my download files such as pictures and mp-3
files to a cd. Programs and games that I do not use all the time I remove.
Run disk cleanup. Leave system files alone , they usually take up little
space and damage when mistakenly removed can be fatal. Jym

Thanks again Jym,
I cannot install my printer and scanner, nothing is being picked up by plug
and play and I cannot even install from running the software, any ideas
It is as though the board hasn't recognised that they have been connected.
Would this be on win xp disk?
