That's it! I am throwing in the towel. After weeks of hoping and wanting to
give Vista a break, I am giving up. I finally came to the conclusion, that
it is not worth the aggrevation. Next weekend I am formatting and installing
XP again. I wont be installing Vista again... at least not untill there is a
service pack out and proper Nvidia drivers.

Good luck to those who strugle on...

Dont worry.... microsoft has invested too much into Vista...

Partners will have to comply if they want to keep doing buisness....

give it some time.... and make sure you install it on very new technology.

I have the latest NVidia drivers and they seem to work (100.65) ok. That's
for the desktop machines, if you have a laptop with the Quadro chipset, then
you are stuck in the boat of waiting for NVidia to catch up.

What other problems are you experiencing? Hardware?

You're doing the right thing. Although there are lots of folks who are
willing to put up with a new OS in its infancy -- and they are vital to the
ultimate development and improvement of the OS -- for many others it's too
much trouble to hassle with it.

Unfortunately some of the folks who blindly advocate that everyone jump on
the bandwagon are a bit short-sighted: the majority of home users don't have
the skills or knowledge to create or seek out fixes to the problems that
ensue. A good many office users can't deal with the potential down time while
problems are sorted out.

You're much better off waiting for these geeks to do their job getting
feedback to MS so that the problems can be worked out, as well as to software
and hardware providers who need to come up with programs and equipment
capable of running Vista successfully.

Anyway, I mostly responded because (in addition to feeling your pain,
although I haven't gone anywhere near Vista yet) I really like your subject
line! Good one.

Per, I am about to down load vista premium. But from your comment , maybe I
am making a mistake. What actually is the problem with vista? I presently
have XP???????

He implies that it's Nvidia graphics problems, but millions of users are
having no problems with Nvidia display adapters, including me. As with all
major upgrades, you should have a full backup of your existing system in
case of serious problems.

Someone said they are leaving? I suspect that you will continue to see
negative post even though most aren't even using it.

Strange phenomena about group behavior. A crowd attracts people and
people attract a crowd.

My main problem is that video playback is not working. It is strange because
at one point DVD playback would cause a bluescreen every time. I tried
PowerDVD, WinDVD and WMP all with the same result. I then went from the
NVIDIA beta driver and back to the latest WHQL driver. Then everything
worked great for a while. But then, suddenly DVD playback startet freezing
after playing for about 5-10 minutes. No bluescreen though, but DVD not
working. THEN.... now suddenly not even videofiles (AVI, MKV ect.) will
play. Now they also freeze up allthough if i wait for about 1-2 minuttes it
will resume.

Also I downloaded and watched to quicktime 720p trailers 2 days ago. Now
when I try to play either of them quicktime crashes and my PC is useless
until quicktime finally closes after 2-5 minuttes.

A comen factor seems to be that my HD led is lighting like crazy when the
freezes/crashes ocur.

This was just one of the problems I am having although it's THE deal-breaker
that I cannot live with.

Another problem is the fact that my harddrive is being used by Vista at
random. This caused sluggish performance. The Vista-pushers in this forum
will try to tell you "don't worry about it...", but it's really annoying.
Sometimes it will take me 50 seconds to unpack a file, but other times it
may take 3 times as long because my harddrive is being used for something
else.

The fact that Microsoft's biggest advertising point for Vista is the flip 3D
feature, wich i NEVER use and is useless, should tell you that Vista really
has little to nothing to offer over XP.
