Has this ever happened to anyone?

Greetings all,
Helping out a friend here and.....he wrote a business plan on Wordpad
(don’t ask why), and saved it. He reworked it for many months, saving
each time. The last time he tried to open it, it opened in an alien
language! I can’t for anything figure out what he did. :?: This is a
portion of what the whole document looks like:

What file type (extension) is this saved in? It looks like it could be
Unicode Text Format. I get a bad feeling about this, unfortunately. Your
friend could be screwed.

Greetings Kevin,
Didn’t want to hear that :roll: but you could be right. May have been
inadvertantly saved in Unicode or Text Document-MS-DOS Format. and not
txt or .rtf and now the whole document is ’screwed’. Also, could be
some spyware/malware or virus living in the .doc section. :?:

Lots of ’could be’ here...Hmmmm...I wonder if there is a doc recovery
program around? :idea: Maybe worth a look around the net.

Greetings all,
Did some research and found a site with some ’free’ Document Recovery
Programs and utilities. Maybe someone else can use them. :idea:

For sure check the possibility of a virus or worm of some kind and focus on
the Program Files folder in particular and the location this specific file
is saved in as well. Good luck!
