What is the best way to see if i have an AGP or a PCI port on my motherboard?
I have no idea what to look for when i actually open up my computer.

PCI edge connectors are near the motherboard edge and there will be more
than one. An AGP slot will be towards the center of the motherboard and
above any PCI slots and setin from the edge further than the PCI slots and
only a single one. If there's one 'different' slot then that's AGP. All
look the same then all are PCI.

If you don't know, you should probably stay out of your PC. Do you have a
manual? It will tell you what you have and what it looks like.
If you don't have one you can download one from the manufacturers website.

AGP slots are reddish brown. Get EVEREST from
www.lavalys.com and it will tell you all the details of your
system. You can then download the mobo manual.

Here's a picture.

The brown one is AGP. The white ones are PCI.

You almost certainly have an AGP slot. You should see a
bunch of rectangular slots on the motherboard that look
to be roughly the same size. The AGP will be the
innermost one, and set back about an inch from the PCI
slots, which all line up.

This program only works well on some motherboards, but often fails to
recognize if there is a card in certain AGP or PCI slots. I have really
only seen this on a couple of Dell Laptops and OEM machines, but if you
get <empty> for the AGP slot, it may be incorrect.

I think the descriptions given were excellent. I would use Everest Home
to find out what computer make/model or motherboard make/model is.
Follow its link to the maker's website and look up the User Manual for
it. This will tell you everything about your motherboard/computer ;)

Excellent image. Do note it is rotated compared to what you will most
likely see in your computer. The AGP slot is for a graphics card and
will always be the top most horizontal slot on the motherboard. It
should almost always be brown colored and set in toward the middle of
the motherboard. You should only have 1 AGP slot on your computer.
Your PCI slots are going to be below the AGP slot, colored tan to white,
and there will be multiple of them. The best thing to do is read your
user's manual for your motherboard. ;)
