Microsoft flight simulator 2004 uses 100% CPU (AMD 1800
XP). If I added More RAM, say 512 MBs, would the simulator
use less CPU then? My current display settings are "very
low" with 256 MBs RAM.
Steve,
It's hard to say for sure, without trying it with more. Windows apps like to
manage memory.
IMHO, though, 256M is the absolute minimum amount of RAM I'd recommend for ANY
system running Windows XP. With any applications, more. With graphics and
real-time activities like a flight simulator, a lot more.
Add another 256M. It's cheap - and the best way to add performance to any
system. Add 768M if the system will take it.
If you want to see for sure, get Process Explorer (free) from
<
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>. Provides way more
information than Task Manager. You can look at any process and see what modules
it contains, and graph its memory and CPU usage. Run Process Explorer before
adding RAM, and watch its graphics. Then add RAM, and watch again.
Cheers,
Chuck
