Hardware Profiles Missing

Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop
Under System - Hardware - Hardware Profiles

There are NO hardware profiles listed. These are the
profile choices you'd get a boot ie docked, undocked, Home
connection etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cool. Sounds like some good Samaritan deleted (accidentally or otherwise)
your hardware profile(s).

You can also check your Registry to see if there are any remnants:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\
Control\
IDConfigDB\
Hardware Profiles

Try this link first, before you attempt hacking the Registry:

If there are none listed, then you must only have one
hardware prodile installed so it will boot up with that by
default. To check your hardware profiles or add some,
right click on My computer, select properties. Hardware
tab then hardware profiles.
