Hey, Im running XP pro. Ive had the problem as to where
some programs that I open or run, just end up
terminating, without waring or anything? The only
examples I have at the moment are Kazaa v2.5.1, When I
install it I can run it fine, but as soon as I restart my
computer and try to run it again, it barely even starts
before terminating. Another example is GetRight download
manager, the program works fine but when I try to open
the Download Manager Status Display, it terminates. So i
tried a different manager, made by the exact same
company. Its called Lightning download manager, same
thing, runs fine except when I try opening the Download
Manager Status Display, it just terminates. This is a
very annoying problem, and thought well Ill just avoid
the programs that do this and I should be fine. But i
just bought the PC game Forsaken, made by Acclaim.
Sometimes, right when I open it it terminates, giving it
basically no time at all to even start running, then at
other times I can run it fine up to a point where I
actually start playing a level and then it gets to the
same point in the level every single time before it
terminates also. This is very annoying! I have downloaded
all of the system updates that my Windows XP needed,
besides one. I didnt install Service Pack 1 (Express)
since it wouldnt let me. But even though I didnt install
this update, I highly doubt it would fix this problem.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with Windows XP Pro and
why it does this? Thankyou, It would be greatly
appreciated to get this problem fixed.

Update! Just bought a new version of Windows XP. Before I
was running a Corporate Final version 2600. I just
recently bought the new 2600 Service Pack 1 version. The
exact same things still happen. Could this be a hardware
problem instead of software? Here are some of my specs

96MB RAM
16MB 3DFX Voodoo3 Video Card
Pentium II 350 Mhz Processor

If any others would help just ask, I was thinking maybe
my PC cant handle some of the programs, but then again
the game that crashes or "closes" is old and was
originally made for Windows 95? Again, it would be
greatly appreciated if anyone could help! Thankyou very
much in advance!

Kevin

If you know it was made for Windows 95, you can right-
click the shortcut, and select Properties, click
Compatability, and change it to Windows 95. Also, try
upgrading your RAM, CPU, and Video card. I am running XP
Home, with 384 Ram, at a 500 MHz P III chip, and some
stuff is super slow! Also, defrag your hard drive, and
check for hardware problems in Device Manager: Right-
click My COmputer, select Properties, click Hardware,
Device Manager. Look for yellow '!'s in the window, then
double click them, and try to update the driver from the
net.

Wow.

Only 96MB of ram!!! That's a bit thin for Windows XP.
And a pentium II is a bit on the lightweight side.

RIght offhand, I'd say you have got a weak machine for
the OS.

Have you checked all the recommended minimum requirements
for Win XP???

Regards,

Neil
