Looking to solve a hardware issue.I have an hp cd writer plus 8200 series
and I am running windows xp.When I first installed the cd writer windows
recognised the cd writer with no problems, since reformating and reinstalling
windows xp,xp wants me to safely remove the hardware.I went to the hp site
and downloaded the device driver for windows xp.When I go to the device
manager it shows the device and does not show any problems. The cd writer is
working but I still have an icon in the task bar that tells me to safely
remove the hardware.Don't know what to do next, any help with this problem
would be much appreciated.

Do you have any software installed for the CD-Writer, Easy CD Creator, Nero,
etc. and if you do, what version?

Is this an external writer; USB?

You may need to talk to HP Tech Support. You may need to do nothing but
disconnect it, reboot, then connect it. However, if it's USB as the message
in the taskbar indicates, usually there is software for such devices and the
software usually needs to be installed before the device (not always, but in
most cases). If that is the case, you may have had software installed for
the unit and not realized it, especially if it came from the factory this
way.

The 8200 is an older drive and it's original software likely would no longer
be compatible. If disconnecting, rebooting and reconnecting and possibly
rebooting again doesn't resolve it, as I said above, you may need to contact
HP to find out what to do with this device in XP. This assumes it is an
external drive, an assumption I'm making from the notice in the taskbar that
you describe.
