Hardware equalizer no longer works

I have an Audigy 4 sound card. The hardware effects, equalizer, bass/trebble
and all other effects no longer work.

I think this is since I installed the DirectX 2006 December redistributable
package.

What should I do?

.... was not an option, because I do not have system restore service :-)
I reinstalled the sound driver and this fixed my problem. The problem was
most likely caused, becase the Run key in the registry of my home PC is
write-protected for security reasons. And may be this caused some DirectX
components not to install, preventing me from using the sound-card features.
I have reinstalled the DirectX as well (with registry protection disabled).
