I have Windows XP Pro on a Dell GX-240 System with two
hard drives. Until recently it has been working fine for
two years. About a month ago I discovered that the D:
Drive was marked read only. All folders and files. When
I went to properties and changed it back, the change did
not apply. I did not use it for storage, so I did not
persue a fix for it.

Now my C: drive is that way and creating major problems.
I cannot create, modify, or delete anything. When I try
to create a file, it tried to save it, but comes back
with the Disk Is Full Error. It's a 40 GB Disk with only
12 GB used. Is there a virus? I have the latest McAfee
Dat files and nothing is found whe I scanned it. Please
help, I am lost.

as long as you can still read, write, and change files on your hard drives
you should be ok. on my laptop if i check the properties of a folder it has
the 'read-only' box filled in with a square.

Hi,

Go to symantec.com to have an on-line security check. If
you found any virus, download the virus removal tools and
run it as instructed.
Also check for spywares. Ad-aware 6.0 from
lavasoftusa.com is quite useful.
