Hi News Group User, :)

Your hardware and O/S specs would help.
Windows Version,
CPU type,
amount of memory,
Video card type,
Disk manf, size,
partition type (FAT32, NTFS) and size
Computer motherboard manf and model.

Many NG's members automatically put this in a footer and it helps get more specific answers to your requests. Hopefully, the next 1,234 posters will read this. :)

Normally this occurs two reasons (1) More than likely your jumper setting
are misconfigured on the hard drive or (2) your PC BIOS is too old to
recognize a drive that large. What is the make and model of the hard drive?

It sounds like you haven't completely formatted and partitioned the
entire drive when it was initialized. If the drive is not defective,
ask someone to help you FDisk and format the drive correctly in order
to be able to use all 40gb.

You have the drive formatted as a fat16 file system. The limit is 2 gig. You
will have to delete the partition and then create a new partition while
under Windows. Format it using the NTFS file system. You will then get the
full capacity.
