Why does my computer tell me that the primary slave hard drive is
bad and needs replacing. It is 40gb im using 25% and there is no
viruses. How do i back up?
What does the size of the drive (40GB) and your usage of it (25%) and the
fact you belive you have no viruses have to do with hardware failure?
*grin* That's like saying your car is red, you have a quarter tank of fuel
and you just took it to be detailed yesterday - why is your "Service Engine
Soon" light on?
Just joking with you..
You probably have "S.M.A.R.T." enabled in your system BIOS - and it MAY or
MAY NOT be accurate in telling you that you have a drive issue. Either that
or you are seeing this message at startup? Or perhaps you have viewed your
event logs and seen this message?
In fact - could you share with use when you see the message and the exact
wording?
In any case - backing up your SLAVE hard drive shouldn't be difficult - if
it really is your slave drive (will depend on the answer of when/what the
message is partially.) If you can still see the stuff on this drive in
Windows - copy it elsewhere. CD/DVD/External drive/Other Internal Drive -
etc. Anywhere but that hard disk drive. If it turns out that it is your
system drive and/or only hard disk drive - then things get trickier - but
not impossible - let us know.
After you have copied your stuff off it - go to the hard disk drive
manufacturers web page and look for a disk diagnostics program that you can
run on the drive to see if it is actually bad.
