Hard drive upgrade - what am I doing wrong?

I am trying to migrate everything from my 20G HD to a new
120G Seagate HD but am having problems. I have tried both
Drive Image 5.0 and Ghost 2003 but neither will work.
Here are the steps I performed.

1. Disconnected my Zip drive and connected
my new 120G HD, jumpered as Slave.
2. Using Partition Magic, partitioned the new
drive into 4 partitions, which is the
number of partitions on my current HD.
3. Using Drive Image, copied all 4 partitions
from my old 20G HD to the new 120G HD.
4. Disconnected the old HD, jumpered the new HD
as Master & rebooted. System hung at the
blue screen with the XP Home logo on
it - just before the sign-on screen.
5. Re-installed XP Home using the repair option
(i.e., not a complete reinstall). System
would now boot but none of my MS Office
programs, including the shortcut bar,
would work. Also, XP reconfigured the 1st
partition as 'G', the next partitions as 'C',
'D' & 'E'. Many programs would not work
due to the remapping of the drive letters.
6. Performed a complete reinstall of XP Home.
Drive letters were correct. (C,D,E&F). As
I have lots of software and do not want to
reinstall everything, tried to restore
my old C drive again using Drive Image.
Ended up with same problem as previous
- system hung at blue XP screen.
7. Repeated step 5 by using the repair option.
Same result - the 1st partition was
reconfigured as drive 'G', none of the
MS Office programs worked.
8. Reinstalled the old HD as Master and
the new HD as slave & used Ghost 2003 to
copy old 'C' drive to new HD. After
removing the old HD and configuring the
new HD as Master, system would immediately
give me a fatal error during boot that part
of the OS (can'd remember exactly what)
was missing.

I am wondering if I should get rid of the 4 partitions,
reformat the new HD and try to just get my existing C
drive migrated to new HD before repartitioning it and
migrating the other partitons. As I have spent many hours
already on this, I would appreciate any advise on the
correct procedure.

Thanks,

Rob

Yes you should delete the four partitions and make them
one, because Win XP will take a partition up to 137 GB
with no problems. If you keep having problems getting it
installed, bring it to a CompUSA. They will help you, and
are very friendly. Also bring them a copy of your drive
copy software.

.I'm having the same problem trying to migrate all files
from a 9 gig harddrive to a 40 gig harddrive.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
