Hard drive stopping?

Frequently when I am running programs, my hard drive will appear to stop
working. For example when I run ad-aware, it will run for a while and then
it will seem to hang. I notice similar things when I run disk scans,
defrags, and other times as well. I am working with a laptop, but the power
settings are set to not shut off hard drives. I have also had problems with
installing service pack 2 because it will have trouble accessing certain
files. I am wondering if my hard drive is failing. Is there a way I can
test it?

Go to the laptop manufacturers website. They should have all of the
diagnostic utilities there.
